Program Timeline

Program Dates: December 21, 2025 – January 3, 2026
(no classes on Dec 24, 25, 31, and Jan 1)
Final Paper Submission: January 3 – February 2, 2026

Step 1. Research Proposal Development

Learn how to design a research plan and refine your own topic. In this stage, you will formulate your initial research questions, which are then sharpened with guidance from the professor. A preliminary Zoom meeting with the faculty provides insights into your area of interest and helps you set a clear direction.

Step 2. Drafting and Iterative Feedback

This is not a lecture-based program. Through daily live sessions with the professor, your draft evolves into a full research paper. Over 50 hours of direct collaboration make this program truly unique. With feedback from faculty and mentors, you will develop and refine the introduction, body, and conclusion of your paper.

Step 3. Finalization and Presentation

Complete the final revisions of your paper and prepare for submission. You will conduct presentation rehearsals and strengthen your communication skills through Q&A sessions with professors and peers, ensuring you are ready for the final defense.

Why Is Research Important for Students?

Top universities seek more than just strong grades — they value students who demonstrate depth of inquiry and original research experience.
In fact, one-third of admitted students at the University of Pennsylvania report having completed a research paper.
The CRI Research Program is designed to help students prepare for admission to leading universities by completing a research paper under the direct guidance of world-class professors.

"Thanks to this program, I not only received a strong recommendation letter from my professor, but also gained clarity in my academic direction."
— Seong O.O., Summer 2024 Participant, Admitted to Stanford University

"As a community college student, I wasn’t sure how to prepare for transfer. Through this program, I built research experience aligned with my major, which became the centerpiece of my application essay."

Q&A

Topics are based on each student’s academic interests and personal curiosity. Before the program begins, we review the student’s areas of interest and finalize the topic in consultation with the professor. If a student has difficulty deciding, the professor will suggest several options from which the student may choose.

Each cohort is kept intentionally small, with a maximum of 10 students per professor. Based on our years of experience, we have found that 10 students is the optimal size for maintaining meaningful interaction between faculty and students. To ensure the highest quality experience, we limit enrollment even if it means not all interested applicants can be accommodated.

In addition to the professor, graduate-level teaching assistants from leading universities support students throughout the research and writing process. Students may reach out to TAs for assistance whenever needed. In past years, TAs have included PhD candidates from the University of Chicago and UC Berkeley, as well as master’s students from Harvard.

Yes. The program is designed for intensive, focused learning. Students spend over 50 hours in live sessions with professors and teaching assistants, which exceeds the contact hours of a standard 3-credit university course. Additional group work and guided support ensure that every student can complete a research paper. In fact, last year’s cohort achieved a 100% paper completion and journal submission rate.

Curiosity and a willingness to learn are the most important. As long as you are eager to explore new ideas and solve problems, you are well-suited for the program. In the past, even students with no prior experience in research successfully completed papers by reviewing over 1,000 articles and conducting original analysis within 10 days.

All sessions are conducted online.

Unlike many programs where professors only appear briefly, at CRI the professor is directly engaged for 20+ hours of teaching and feedback. From topic selection to drafting and final presentation, professors provide live, personalized guidance throughout. Each session is interactive rather than lecture-style, enabling professors to truly understand each student’s work — a key factor that leads to meaningful recommendation letters.

Yes, though it is not guaranteed for all participants. Professors write comprehensive mid-term and final evaluations based on approximately 50 hours of direct observation. Students who meet the required standard (B+ or higher) may receive a recommendation letter that can be used for college applications. These letters are detailed, evidence-based, and carry strong credibility — admissions officers recognize that the professor genuinely knows the student’s academic abilities.
